Paul Flores parents: The disappearance of Kristin Smart in 1996 was one of the most high-profile cases in California’s history.

Kristin was a student at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo when she vanished without a trace.

The prime suspect in the case has always been fellow student Paul Flores. While Flores has never been charged with Kristin’s disappearance, recent developments have brought renewed attention to the case, including the arrest of Flores and his father, Ruben Flores.

Paul Flores parents: Meet Ruben Flores and Susan Flores

Ruben Flores and Susan Flores are the parents of Paul Flores, the man who has been the primary suspect in the disappearance of Kristin Smart for more than two decades.

Ruben and Susan both grew up in California and have been married for more than 50 years.

Ruben Flores is a retired construction worker who has lived in Arroyo Grande, California, for many years. Susan Flores worked as a clerk for the Arroyo Grande School District. Both Ruben and Susan were living in San Pedro, California, at the time of their arrest.

Ruben Flores and Susan Flores have been connected to the Kristin Smart case from the very beginning. According to court documents, Kristin was last seen alive in the early morning hours of May 25, 1996, after attending a party near the Cal Poly campus.

She was walking back to her dormitory when she encountered Paul Flores, who was also walking in the same direction.

In the years since Kristin’s disappearance, several searches have been conducted on Ruben and Susan Flores’ properties.

According to court documents, investigators found evidence linking Ruben Flores to the disposal of Kristin’s body on his property.

In March 2021, Ruben Flores was arrested and charged with accessory to murder in connection with Kristin’s disappearance. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

After nearly 27 years since Kristin Smart, a 19-year-old college student, went missing from the California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, Paul Flores was sentenced on Friday, March 11th, 2023, to 25 years to life in prison for her murder.

The Monterey County Superior Court Judge Jennifer O’Keefe rejected motions to toss out Flores’ first-degree murder conviction and acquit him.
