In his senior year, he averaged 27.5 points, 16.4 rebounds, and 7.8 blocks per game, earning him numerous awards and accolades.
After graduating from high school, Perkins decided to forgo college and enter the NBA draft. He was selected 27th overall by the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2003 NBA draft, but he was immediately traded to the Boston Celtics.
Perkins spent his first seven seasons in the NBA with the Boston Celtics, where he established himself as a tough, physical defender and a reliable rebounder.
