According to the Fayette County coroner’s office, Erica Nichole Yeary, 41, from Lexington, suffered blunt force injuries to the head when a tree fell on the car on the 1000 block of The Lane.
Yeary was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:37 p.m. The man sustained life-threatening injuries when the tree fell on him and the vehicle while he was outside clearing a branch from the road.
The violent storms that swept through the state on Friday have been responsible for at least four deaths, including the Lexington incident.
Governor Andy Beshear reported three other storm-related deaths via Twitter. One person died in Simpson, one in Edmonson, and one in Logan Counties. This marks a tragic start to the year, with many people affected by the extreme weather.
