Christine Grady is a nurse and bioethicist who has spent her career advocating for the ethical treatment of patients in medical research.
She is currently the Chief of the Department of Bioethics at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center, where she oversees the ethics consultations and education programs for the hospital.
Grady is also a Senior Investigator in the Department of Bioethics and an Adjunct Professor of Bioethics at the Georgetown University School of Medicine.
In addition to her professional work, Grady is also a wife and mother of three daughters.
Christine Grady earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Georgetown University School of Nursing in 1974. She went on to complete her Master of Science in Nursing from Boston College in 1982 and her PhD in Philosophy from Georgetown University in 1993.
Throughout her career, Grady has worked as a clinical research nurse, a nurse practitioner, and a bioethicist.
She has also served on numerous national and international committees and task forces focused on ethical issues in healthcare and research.
Grady has been recognized for her contributions to the field of bioethics with numerous awards and honors, including the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Mentoring in 2017.
She is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, the Hastings Center, and the College of Physicians of Philadelphia.
Throughout her husband’s career, Christine Grady has been a strong supporter and advocate. In an interview with Vogue, Fauci described Grady as his “rock” and credited her with helping him balance his work and personal life.
Grady has also been actively involved in her husband’s work, including serving on the President’s Council on Bioethics under President George W. Bush and participating in NIAID’s planning and response efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic.
