Alison Thomas Cause of death: The community of Monroe, North Carolina is mourning the loss of a 37-year-old woman named Alison Thomas, who was found deceased over the weekend.

Union County Sheriff Eddie Cathey released a statement that the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to their area after a dead woman was discovered. Preliminary identification confirmed that the body belonged to Alison Thomas.

WSOC reported that Thomas’ death has been ruled a homicide, although the cause of death has not yet been released.

Sheriff Cathey revealed that Thomas was last seen in northeastern Union County on February 13, but her disappearance wasn’t reported until February 17, four days later. It is currently unknown what happened to Thomas during this time or how she ended up in Jackson County.

The remote location where Thomas was found was a dirt road in the Tuckaseegee area, near the Nantahala National Forest.

According to WSOC, a passerby who stopped along the road discovered her body. Local authorities are working together, including the Union County Sheriff’s Office investigators, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation to find the person responsible.

Authorities have said that this incident is considered to be isolated. The community is still in shock, and no motive or suspects have been identified as of yet. Sheriff Cathey has urged anyone with information to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
